Here in Boulder, Colorado, snow was left on the hills of Chautauqua for Jamie and I to play in. We hiked up slushy trails into a forest full of pine. The sun filtered golden rays through the trees as it was getting ready to set. Once at the top, we were able to take in the panoramic view of the city, it was vast and breathtaking.

I was stoked when I found out Alvvays was performing at the legendary Waterloo record store in Austin! It was an intimate setting, maybe 35 people or so there to watch. So cool! Alvvays also played later on this evening at Red 7. Of course we went to see them play there too! Go check them out and listen to their awesome music!

We walked around after a delicious brunch at South Congress Cafe (the carrot cake french toast was off the hook!) and perused quirky shops filled with local art and a ton of handmade Mexican items. Everything was just as quirky and colorful as you can imagine. Jamie got lost in the Mexican music instruments.

Austin. Austin. Austin. You are such a character. Food trailers everywhere you turn, art, music, parks, music, yes, that’s right, I said music twice, Austin is most definitely America’s music capital. We picked up the local paper one day and were amazed by the line up of bands, big and small, playing every night. I’m talking like 5 acts at each small venue, PLUS big acts at the theaters. If you love live music, Austin is your city. Oh, and if you LOVE tacos, you could spend an entire year eating at a different taqueria every single day. I’m almost certain there are taco places right next door to one another, that’s how many we saw! Who’s got the best tacos? is like a thing here.
Austin isn’t really a walking city, it’s a pretty big place, but it is broken up into areas that aren’t all very close to one another. Biking would be a good way to get around if it’s nice out, but having our car really helped us navigate this town. I recommend spending more than a couple days here to really take in everything Austin has to offer, that is unless you know someone who lives there that could be your local tour guide.
Keep it weird, Austin. We had a blast!
